“We have to fulfill the prophecy of finding a new hot internet girl that’s literally why we’re at dinner.” Gabbriette’s famous line in the ‘360’ music video from, let’s face it, the album of the summer, brat, is ironic in two ways. One, she is one of the hot internet girls right now, and two, she’s aptly sat at a lavish dinner table — one of the things in life that she loves most.

If you follow (and have been following) the young model for a while, you’ll know that her career kicked off as a dancer in Blood Orange’s music video, followed by multiple runway shows and campaigns for brands like Fenty, Skims, and Bottega — oh and she joined punk rock band Nasty Cherry as the lead singer alongside Charli xcx at the age of 20. So, Gabbriette is as multi-talented and creative as they come; reckon that’s why in the lyrics of ‘360’ we hear, “call me Gabbriette you’re so inspired”? But there is one side of her that blossomed even more during the pandemic, which she took to social media to share: hosting and cooking — and that’s what we’re here to explore in this GUEST EDIT.

“My family and my upbringing really got me into food,” she says, “all of my core memories are around the dinner table.” The latter of this probably rings true for most of us who, especially during summer, congregate around tables in all shapes and sizes, outdoors and indoors, to host and share a meal with loved ones, stay in our shorts and tank tops all day and enjoy the golden evening sun.

“I’ve always loved the science behind baking, but I started by recreating the food I grew up eating,” she explains. Most people steer away from the technicality of baking and French pastry, but not Gabbriette. The Orange County native grew up with a mixed Hispanic and Swiss background, and although you’d expect Cali girl smoothies and kale salads to be on her roster, Gabbriette prefers to pull from her different cultures when it comes to the food she makes, “I love working with different flours and sugars!” From pineapple upside-down cakes and turkey sandwiches, to goat’s cheese galettes and stacked latkes, Gabbriette channels her IDGAF attitude and unique style through her food. “I don’t write recipes down. I hate dill. And I make a mess. That’s the way to do it,” she laughs. But what does our kitchen queen wear when she’s getting ready to host her dinner parties? We found out by digging deeper into her personal (and fearless) style.

OUI CHEF?

You might know Gabbriette for her all-black attire and gothic Instagram aesthetic. If she’s not in body-tight dresses or lace and crop tops, she’s in an oversized blazer or retro ’60s glam. But the 26-year-old sees herself slowly transforming into a 2024 summer girly. Yes, she describes her style as “simple, comfortable and leather,” and if her social presence is anything to go by, the leather part definitely rings true, but she’s also found that the upcoming sunny season is bringing out a new side of her. “I think I’ve turned into a summer girl. I get sort of frustrated when I have too many layers on that need to be peeled back. I’m into just a t-shirt and pants at the moment.” I think we can all relate, right? The internet is teeming with celeb shots and influencer images that spotlight the well-deserved resurgence of baby tees and baggy jeans.

“I’m a beach girly at heart, but don’t want to be at the beach haha, and every day I’m a bit different with the way I dress. Sometimes, I want to be clean and sleek. The days I don’t wash my hair, I lean into that and wear a dirty sweater and some jeans.” I think we can all relate…again?

Gabbriette’s earliest fashion memory explains a lot about her personality, but also why she dresses the way she does, “I was obsessed with this little leopard-collared dress, which I think my sister wore before me. I wore it until I couldn’t zip it anymore!” Loud, proud, and not afraid to have all eyes on her, I don’t think we’d expect anything less?! Using every day as an opportunity to celebrate her style, in whatever format, fabric, or fine detail that may be, she’s inspired by people on the street, ’50s pin-up stars, musicians, friends, pretty much everyone around her — and she’s not one to shy away from a new look.

When it comes to hosting, there are a few simple rules Gabbriette lives by. “If I’m preparing bits in the kitchen, it’s a white shirt to get dirty kind of vibe, but when it’s time to host and shine, heels and a hot outfit because, hopefully, everyone will be taking photos!” she says. And why shouldn’t we get all dolled up when we’re showing off our culinary creations? If you’re going to the effort of hosting a multi-course meal, setting up a gorgeous tablescape, and topping up your friends’ glasses with even more bubbles, you better be wearing something that screams ‘I’m that b*tch’.

“I think my blackout chocolate cake matches my aesthetic most,” she smirks (peep the recipe on her IG). Luxurious, decadent, and likely to make a mess? Sounds about right when you pair it with her raven black hair, thin dark eyebrows and no-frills style. Giving off a contemporary Morticia Addams rather than traditional Julia Child aura, she’s all about beautiful chaos, in and out of the kitchen. “I’m throwing a dinner party this weekend, and the theme is ‘come to eat, stay to party’,” she chuckles. “I look up to a lot of chefs for inspiration, Martha Stewart, Carolina Gelen, Pierce Abernathy, I bet Gordon Ramsay would be my toughest critic (if he knew I existed), but at the end of the day, cooking and hosting are things I just want to have fun with. But my one top tip — always say yes to help and trust your gut!”

Even though she loves being hostess with the mostest, Gabbriette dreams of opening a cafe one day and doesn’t take herself too seriously. If she’s not serving up “good music, good olive oil, candles, lighting, and attitude”, the off-duty host makes herself a “three-minute sandwich or bowl of cereal, spending time working on recipes in [her] undies.” If you’ve never made yourself breakfast in your underwear, you’re missing out, trust us.
